Reputation. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines reputation as the “overall quality or character as seen or judged by people in general.” Given that the festival of colors (Holi) and stains is close by, I decided to ponder about the variety of colors thrown on people on a daily basis. Sometimes it has nothing much to do with the person’s actual actions but what the world wants to be true. I know this from experience because I spent half of my early adulthood living as a textbook female as would be considered eventually proper in my original culture. After that I merely made the mistake of asking some honest questions. Before I could realize, fate took a turn and I was misunderstood by a culture. Then most of the people I knew, and others, left. I decided to become a basic human being only answerable to the higher universe and decided to keep my face the same in the face of many changing faces. Because when all the stains and colors are gone, it’s a clean heart and the footmarks of your actions that matter eventually. In the end, nothing is more sensational than the truth.
